Pierre Lévy is a professor at the National conservatory of Arts and Crafts, France, holder of the Chair of design Jean Prouvé, and member of the Dicen laboratory (EA 7339).
Drawing on theories related to embodiment as well as Japanese philosophy and thought, his research proposes a cultural decentring of design in order to explore the relationship between institutionalized creative processes (the arts, design, engineering, etc.) and non-institutionalized creative acts of everyday life (appropriation, détournement, etc.). Through this research, Pierre Lévy explores the attitude, societal role, and limitations of design in the service of transformative practices.
He holds a diploma in mechanical engineering from Compiègne University of Technology (UTC), France, a doctorate in Kansei (affective) Science from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and an HDR in information and communication sciences from UTC. He has lived for nearly 10 years in Japan (where he has worked in the industrial and academic domains) and 12 years at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands.
