This talk explores participation in architecture by analysing how it can be integrated into the design process. Drawing on a social housing renovation project in difficulty, the actual depth of this participation will be examined using an index developed to assess the effective role of the different types of actors in these processes. The presentation will highlight the gap between prescribed participation and experiential participation and discuss methodological issues relevant to the analysis of interactions between designers and users in these processes.
